What Is Multiple Chemical Sensitivity?

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is a condition that most mainstream health professionals are not taught about.

Those that have Multiple chemical sensitivity (also known as (MCS)  have a wide range of symptoms and are either ignored or in many cases mis-diagnosed as mentally ill by health care professionals.

MCS is a condition that creates an extreme sensitivity to various chemicals resulting in the person becoming very ill – with a wide range of symptoms.  Even when around chemicals that are regarded as safe.

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is similar to an allergy, but the symptoms and mechanism are not the same, like those of traditional allergies to pollen, animals, and dust.   Because people with MCS react to chemicals at levels that ordinarily – do not affect others.

  • Anyone can develop MCS
  • There is no blood/urine test for MCS

MCS – A short Introduction

What Causes MCS?

Those that have been over-exposed to a one-time chemical explosion, etc spillage, leakages, gases etc (even if they were detoxed at the time) may show no signs of long term side effects/damage at the time of exposure.

How ever, these toxins quickly embed deep into the tissues.  At this stage, the original chemical doesn’t usually show up in any blood/urine tests – often resulting in the patient being mis-diagnosed as mentally ill.

Those that have been exposed to low levels of chemicals – over a long period of time. Eg:

  • It is common for painters, petrol pump attendants and anyone that has worked in or lived near any company that makes or uses large quantities of chemicals.

NOTE:  Victims of Electronic Assault – known as Targeted Individuals (TI’s) experience and often end up getting Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

As time progresses more people are getting (MCS) .  We have got to the stage where it is near impossible to get away from daily low-level chemical exposure.

There are more products that contain chemical ingredients/gases (including fabrics carpets, packaging etc).  More foods we consume now, also contain a growing level of chemicals.

(Some become sensitive to technologies only – this condition is called electro-sensitivity -ES)

Symptoms of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
Substances that frequently cause symptoms in chemically sensitive people include pesticides, perfume/cologne and other scented products, fresh paint, new carpets, many building materials, solvents, fresh ink, smoke, vehicle exhaust, industrial fumes, and many cleaning products & scented products such as  air “fresheners,” fragrance-emitting devices, fabric softener, potpourri, incense, essential oils, and most soaps, shampoos, hair products, skin lotions, and laundry detergents.
If you feel ill a lot but your doctor says nothing is wrong, you may have multiple chemical sensitivity
MCS Sufferers React to Chemicals at Levels that Ordinarily…
Do not Affect Others

Symptoms can occur after inhaling, touching, or ingesting these or other substances.  Reactions to scented products can occur even in people who cannot smell them.  Some can taste a chemical presence rather than smell it.

Some of these symptoms include:

  • Burning, stinging eyes
  • Wheezing
  • Breathlessness
  • Nausea
  • Extreme fatigue/lethargy that can lead to developing  – Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
  • Headache/migraine
  • Vertigo/dizziness
  • Poor memory & concentration
  • Runny nose (rhinitis)
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Sinus problems
  • Skin rashes and/or itching skin
  • Sensitivity to light& noise
  • Sleeping problems
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Digestive upset
  • Muscle & joint pain
  • Slurred speech
  • Co-ordination problems
  • Loss of balance
  • Low tolerance to alcohol
  • Intolerance to some medications
  • Unconsciousness

NOTE: These symptoms can occur at exposure levels that are considered safe.

Although  MCS sufferers can get temporary relief by keeping away from chemicals – it is getting more difficult as time goes on, to be in a completely chemical-free environment, as chemicals in society today are increasing extremely fast.

EG: An MCS sufferer can walk into a shop and smell/taste what the floor was cleaned with (even if the floor was cleaned a few days earlier). Thus creating the debilitating effects above.

Many that suffer with MCS are also Electro-Sensitive – sensitive to electromagnetic fields/microwave frequencies that emit from (Technologies (including wireless) such as cell phones/cell towers, smart meters as well as computers, televisions & and most other technologies.  Learn more about Electrosensitivity (ES)  –  here
